Outside the Comfort Zone

I, like I pray most people do, have a fail proof, it’s that time of the month proof, I shouldn’t have gotten desert proof, outfit. An A-Line Skirt with a body suit and normally a pair of heels. It’s┬áeasy to dress up or down, works for any season and does wonders for my silhouette. I can, and did, wear variations of this outfit for the past two years. Recently, I’ve been buying clothes that don’t necessarily fit in the 1950’s┬áaesthetic I’ve acquired over the years. I’m just kind of outgrowing it, which I was trying to fight for the longest time but I’ve come to accept it. Everything evolves over time. I’m not the same person I was when I was sixteen, so why should my wardrobe?

You’re style will evolve over time. I’m never going to be a t-shirt and jeans girl. I’m just not but I’ve recently added pieces that I wouldn’t have even glanced at in the past years. Things I wouldn’t have necessarily been comfortable wearing because of one insecurity or another. I’m pushing myself out of my style comfort zone and I’m not regretting it. I recently bought a romper, from Forever21. Aside from the fear I had of my girls being all over hate place, I hate wearing shorts. Long story short, I had a bad experience once because of a pair of shorts when I was like sixteen and I haven’t worn them since.

Yet, this black romper with red flowers was literally screaming at me through the computer screen so I had to buy it. When it came in the mail, I literally did not open it because I was kind of nervous, like the romper was going to come out of the plastic baggy and eat me. I eventually did and Oh my, I’ve fallen completely in love it and it’s one of my favorite pieces in my closet. It’s so comfortable and it looks so cute. I honestly can’t believe I didn’t buy one sooner.

I’m not giving up my a-line skirts and I’m NOT giving up body suits. I hate shirt lines, so intensely, it’s not even funny BUT I will be stepping out of the norm of whats in my closet. The beautiful thing about personal style is that is always evolving. It’s can be kind of stressful, especially if you’re into aesthetics like I am, but it’s nice to have some variety in your day to day wardrobe. Buy or in the very least, try on the skirt with the weird print. You’ll have somewhere to wear it, I promise. You might surprise yourself and like it.

Boho goes Couture

If you saw my last blog post about Elie Saab,┬áyou already know that I am obsessed with feminine style clothing. Why? Don’t know, I just love it and wish I could wear it all the time, or at all, considering I’m a twenty year old college student. Honestly, I’d just like to walk through the atelier and see the seamstress work their magic. Seeing as I cannot do that for various reason, the big one being I don’t think you’re allowed to do that if you don’t work for a brand, I just watch their shows, over and over again when couture season comes along and day dream.

Most recently, there was the Fall 2016 couture week in Paris and I’ve been looking at the photos from Vogues website ever since. In particularly Zuhair Murads line. I am not a bohemian style girl. I appreciate and love people who take that style and make it their own, I’m just not one of them. I’m more golden age hollywood then Woodstock. That being said, I died when I was his collection. I died, came back to life and died again because it’s so beautiful, I stopped breathing.

I became interested in Zuhair Murad when I saw Jennifer Lopez, ageless goddess, in one of his white pieces a while back and I realized that I had been loving his designs for YEARS and never knew who he was. Do his designs remind you of anyone? _MUR0009.jpg*cough, cough Elie Saab. They have similar designs in that they both have impeccable detailing! Which I am a sucker for in anything. I will say that for me at least, the real difference between Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab is the feel I get when I see their clothing. Elie Saab reminds me of living breathing princess clothing, while Zuhair Murads designs have more power behind them. Not that the two can’t be synonymous, it’s just a different feeling, design wise.

_MUR0179┬áThis is one of my favorite looks from the show. I love the blood red, burgundy fabric.A color, I myself tend to lean towards during the fall but the thing I love the most is the sleeves. I know that seems weird but I’ve noticed if a dress has a lot of detailing, sometimes it won’t be continued with the sleeves or if it is, it doesn’t seem to blend or it’s a little simpler. I love the fact that the detailing continues along with the sleeves, not taking away from the beauty of the rest of the dress but adding to it.

I hope this encourages you to look at designers that may not be as well-known despite having achieved massive success. I hope you have a lovely Monday!

The Fairy Tale World of Elie Saab

If you could build a dream closet, filled with any designers you want, who would you pick? Elie Saab would have to be one of, if not my first choice. I first came across Elie Saab around two years ago and I’m not joking when I say, it was love at first sight. I’m almost at the point now where I can spot an Elie Saab creation, just by the way it looks because all of Elie Saabs clothing look like something out of a Disney movie. KIM_0715.jpg

You cannot tell me this look doesn’t remind you of the Queen of Hearts, if she was a mogul living on fifth avenue?! This dress is from his latest collection, which was shown at last weeks Fall 2016 Couture week in Paris. I loved this collection and this dress was hands down my favorite piece from the collection. It’s a lot darker than the looks Elie Saab normal does but it’s still has that trademark intricate detailing.

My favorite thing about Elie Saab’s designs is that they’re always feminine, which is why they have a princess like nature to them. This collections inspiration was New York City, which isn’t what comes to mind when one thinks of femininity. New York is a gritty city, known for Wall-street, the fashion industry and the constant hustle and bustle. He takes the core of New York and makes it dreamlike. KIM_0138.jpg

This dress looks like a walking piece of architecture, an idea that usually produces clean lines or more masculine clothing. Elie Saab took this theme and made a dress that looks like a dream. Although the print resembles the empire state building, it stills moves and sits on the body like a gown. It’s not boxy but instead omits an aura of elegance and glamour, while still properly representing the theme.

I would love to just have a closet full of these dresses. Granted, I don’t have anywhere to wear them but I would love to just walk around my house with them on.There’s no way anyone could slip into any of his creations and not feel glamorous.

I hope this encourages you to look into Elie Saab and the rest of his designs! I got all of these photos from Vogue! If you select Runway and then Fall Couture 2016, you can find his latest show as well as all of the shows from the latest runway show! Tell me who you’d have in your dream closet below!

Summer Movie Favorites

Two weeks or so ago, I wrote about what books I’m reading this summer. I think it’s only fitting that I write about the films I love to watch during the summer. Now, if you don’t know, I’m an old hollywood film junkie. TCM is one of my favorite channels because they show all of their films without commercials. Plus, they have the schedule for every film they’re going to show for the entire month! So you can plan ahead if you want to watch a specific film. Over the past week TCM has shown some of my favorite films ever, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Dark Passage and  Some Like it Hot.Each of those film star actresses that are icons, in my personal opinion and they all happen to star in one of the films I’m recommending you watch this summer!

The first film I recommend you watch this summer stars none other than the ethereal Audrey Hepburn. tumblr_o5wm69VkA31uaeac9o1_1280.jpgSabrina, the original not the remake, is one of, if not, my favorite Audrey Hepburn movie. Sabrina co-stars Humphrey Bogart and William Holden. Sabrina is about a chauffeurs daughter, Hepburn, who is in love with the bosses youngest son, Holden. I don’t want to write any more about the plot line because I’m afraid I’m going to give something away.Aside from the amazing cast and plot line, the film includes arguably one of the most beautiful dresses that Hepburn ever wore for a film. It was designed by Givenchy, of course, who was a close friend of the actress. The film is in black and white but I love black and white films. They aren’t common anymore but I think they give a little something to movies.

The second film is also in black and white, sorry but I’m telling you some of the best films you’ll ever see are in Black and white.
f208275ccda72ca16d021cda648a1899.jpgThe Misfits, stars none other then maybe of the most recognizable actress of her time, Ms. Marilyn Monroe. I’m a huge Monroe fan. I think I’ve seen all of her films, even the ones where her part isn’t that large. The Misfits, which was written by her then husband Arthur Miller, as a birthday present to the actress, was released in 1961. It stars Clark Gable, a.k.a. Rhett Butler and Montgomery Clift. Just watch this film. It’s my favorite Monroe film because its one of the few films where she isn’t cast as the dumb blonde. I will warn that the film has a much more somber aura then Sabrina, which is more of a romantic comedy with a twist I guess.

The last film is in color and it’s a happy one! How to Marry a Millionaire stars Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall, who passed around two years ago. I love Lauren Bacall films.How_to_marry_a_millionaire She plays the absolute best characters and although this isn’t my favorite Bacall movie, I wanted to choose a movie that was in Technicolor, for those of you who just can’t do the black and white thing. This is also one of the first classic films I ever saw and sparked my interest in Old Hollywood and I’m hopeing it will do the same for some of you. HTMAM, is about three women who move into an expensive apartment in NYC in order to marry millionaires. The film is funny and lighthearted. It’s a good way to end after the slight heavy film, the Misfits.

Those are my summer movie recommendations! I’d also look into Carmen Jones, which is on Netflix and stars Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte. It’s a musical and is one of the few films from that era with an all Black/African-American cast. I’d also give Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, which stars Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni a chance. The film is in Italian but comes with subtitles and is one of my all time favorite films. Both of those films are in color, so no need to worry!

I hope you’re enjoying your summer! I was going to post this last week but it was 110 degrees at like 7am, and I couldn’t think. It was horrible. Stay cool and have a good week!

Closet Classics: Sandals

Happy Saturday and welcome to another installment of Closet Classics! I’m going to be talking about one of my favorite things in the world to buy, shoes. I love shoe! I can’t even describe how much I love buying a new pair of shoes. I guess the best way to explain it is this. At one point during my teenage life, my mom banned me from buying more than one pair of shoes a month because I had nowhere to put my growing collection. I’m not as bad anymore because I can live┬ávicariously through my older sister, who has an amazing shoe collection.

As we know it’s spring and spring means sandals. Lots and lots of sandals. I used to hate wearing sandals because I hate my feet. Then I realized that no one cares about my feet so I started wearing sandals and I’ve never looked back. As you know, I go to a school with a lot of stairs but I’m short so I still like to wear something with a little bit of a heel. Something that’s comfortable but still gives me some height. That’s why the chunky heel sandal, is a spring time staple for me.

The best thing about chunky heel sandals, is the versatility they offer. All of my chunky heels are around three to four inches.lets get some shoes I don’t want to go higher than that because I do spend a fair amount of time walking around and it’s just not comfortable to wear heels higher then that all the time.

My favorite pair of chunky heel sandals have to be this black pair that I recently purchased from one of my favorite stores, Dorothy Perkins online.I absolutely adore the Rocco mid sandal in black! shoesssI’ve been wearing a lot more color lately, because it’s spring and I’m trying to brighten up my closet. These shoes literally go with everything. The heel is only 2.5 inches, so it’s comfortable. They are suede, so my only wearing would be to be careful about puddles. It is spring and I know many of you live in places where it does rain. Water is a quick death for anything made out of suede.

shoesI wear mine with my a-line midi skirts, my dress, I even pair my nude-pinkish ones with leggings. They’re an easy way to make a causal outfits look you put a little more time and effort into them. If you’re looking for a pair of chunky heel sandals, my first place would be Nordstrom Rack because you can get really high quality shoes for a good price. The second place I’d look would be Nordstrom, you are going to pay a bit more money but I’ve never spent a lot of money on a shoe from there and regretted it. They’re always comfortable and they last forever. The last place I’d recommend looking would be DSW because like Nordstrom Rack, they have good shoes for a good price.

If you want more of a brand based chunky based shoe, I would go look in Aldo. I love Aldo shoes. They’re beyond comfortable and they look amazing. I would honestly look at Aldo to buy any shoe you’re looking for, not just chunky heel sandals. They can be a little pricey but it’s worth it. Plus you can always wait and shop sales!

That is it for this addition of Closet Classics, spring shoe addition! I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend, if you celebrate Easter, if not I hope you enjoy your weekend! If you have any places you think I should look for sandals, leave the name in the comments below! I’m always looking for new shoes, always. You can never have too many shoes, no matter what anyone may tell you.

Closet Classics: A-Line Skirts

First things first, Happy Friday and welcome to Closet Classics! I’m so excited to be starting this series on my blog. It’s going to be all about my closet classics! Pieces that never go out of style and can be worn in a variety of different ways on different occasions!

The first piece in my closet classics, is an A-line Skirt.I have about four A-line skirts but this fuchsia pleated one I recently purchased has to be my favorite!4-up on 3-11-16 at 10_Fotor.jpg I love it because it’s bright and playful. My personal style could be described as modern classic, which is why A-Line skirts work perfectly for me but they fit into other styles as well.

I wear my skirts everywhere┬ábecause it’s very easy to dress them up or down with a few simple switches. I’m a full time student, so when I go to school I want to look nice but I want to be comfortable as well. If I’m wearing my skirt to school or any other casual setting, I’ll dress it down.

I accomplish this look by pairing my skirts with a solid colored shirt, tucked in at the waist. My favorite casual look with an a-line skirt is a button up denim shirt or a solid scoop neck tee.For shoes, I recommend a pair of flats or sandals, leopard or any other wild print flats are a great way to make a statement while still being comfortable and cute. Plus leopard is essentially a neutral and can be worn with almost everything.

If I want to dress it up, I switch to a lace blouse, a collard shirt or a shirt with a print on it, again tucked in at the waist. Leopard and Polka dots are my go to. Instead of wearing flats, I’ll put on a pair of heels and put on some jewelry. A statement necklace, stacked bracelets or┬áa pair of statement studs are easy ways to add more dimension to your outfit as well.My only rule about accessorizing┬ácomes from CoCo Chanel, when accessorizing, always take off the last thing you put on. You don’t want your jewelry overpowering you. You want to wear the outfit, you don’t want the outfit to wear you.

If you have more of a laid back style, I’d wear a screen tee instead of a button up, or even a crop top and a pair of sneakers for a casual look. If you want to dress it up, I’d keep the screen tee on and maybe add a bikers jacket. For shoes I’d go with a pair of booties or a chunky heel, because they’re usually fairly comfortable but still have the ability to up an outfit. For accessorize I would go with thin layered necklaces, statement rings or a┬áwide brim floppy hat.

I hope you enjoyed todays post! If you wear A-line skirts, tell me how you style yours in the comments below! I hope you have an amazing weekend!

Au revoir!

Pssss. If you live in California, wasn’t the rain insane on Monday!? It’s good because we need rain, saying California is in a drought would be putting it lightly but oh my god, it was crazy! It was the first time in my life rain and hail have ever woken me up. Sorry about that if you don’t live in California but honestly, rain is a rarity and Monday was crazy.

Inspiration: Lauren Conrad

If you’re anything like me, the first reality show you became invested in was The Hills. I absolutely loved watching the hills.I started watching The Hills originally because a friend of mine at the time told me that the women on the show went to FIDM and she thought it was something I’d be interested in. If you’ve seen the show, you know that after like a season it becomes completely about all the drama between the cast mates. My friends and I would watch that show religiously. If I hear Natasha Bedingfields song unwritten today, it’s like be transported back into another time.

lauren_conrad_weddingLauren Conrad was the main focus of the show until the middle of the fifth season but she stayed in the spotlight so to speak through her business endeavors, which is why she is one of the people that inspire me. Lauren Conrad is only thirty years old and has accomplished everything I aspire to and then some. She’s had multiple fashion lines, has published nine books, the ninth one, Celebrate comes out on March 29th and runs a successful┬álifestyle blog, just to name a few of her accomplishments.

Not only does she have an amazing┬áentrepreneurial spirit, she’s also involved in making the world a better place through her businesses. The little market is an online store that specializes in fair trade goods. If you don’t know what fair trade goods are, fair trade goods are sold in a way that benefits the producers of products in developing countries and promote economic sustainability.

Author, designer, lifestyle guru, Lauren Conrad has been an inspiration for myself and many other young women for at least a decade. She not only inspires you to be a better business woman but a better person. Which sounds weird because she is so young. She’s the kind of reality star we need more of today.

Tell me who inspires you and why in the comments below!

Pssss. Happy Monday! It’s pouring down rain where I live, which is weirder then it sounds because it rarely ever rains in Southern California. I’m happy though because I love the rain! I hope you have a wonderful day, despite the rain! I’ll be back again this week with my first installment in Closet Classics.

Style Inspiration

I have a very, I wouldn’t say unique style but what my mother likes to call slightly eccentric style. Different enough so I stand out but not so different that people give me weird looks when I’m walking down the street. Which wasn’t my goal but it just kind of seemed to happen. ┬áThe one question my friends ask about my clothes the most is where I get my style inspiration from. I always say things like tumblr or Pinterest which isn’t a lie but it’s not exactly the truth.┬áMost of┬ámy style inspiration comes from the past.

5d71d1064eadf52c6f14b811b2d191e3A fair amount, if not all, of my style inspiration comes from Dita Von Teese. Dita Von Teese in my opinion is the queen of glamour. When you see pictures of her, it’s almost like looking at the photos of Old Hollywood film stars. Which was one of the reasons, I originally became interested in her.

I absolutely adore old Hollywood and I get a lot of my style inspiration from. I love Old Hollywood actresses, Elizabeth Taylor is one of my favorites, and the glamour that they exude. I love the hair, the make-up and the fashion. I love all of the lace and satin. There’s something about it that I can’t really describe but it just makes me happy. I think it’s so beautiful. I love it.

b892a1f5e5451e2525556244c2e5a713I like Dita Von Teese because she’s embodies Old Hollywood Glamour but she does it in a way that is attainable, which is something she says all the time. When I first began dressing in a vintage way, it was hard because I lot of the outfits I found seemed ┬ágimmicky, which I can’t stand. After looking at the way she dresses, I was able to pull out pieces, so I still give out a vintage vibe without feeling as if I was dressed for Halloween.

I don’t dress as vintage as I would like too any more because the pieces are harder to find but I like to think, I find ways to incorporate my vintage inspiration in small ways. I buy shoes that may not be vintage but look like the would be made in a certain time period. I always wear lipstick, mostly red and always wear winged eye liner. My jewelry is reminiscent of another area, as are the rest of my accessorize.

I love all things Old Hollywood and I guess anything from the forties to the sixties inspires me. Tell me who inspires your style in the comments below!

BP. Trolley Boot Review

I bought the BP. trolley boots from Nordstrom! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I wrote about them in a previous blog post and they are amazing. I had been putting off buying them for a while because I felt that it wasn’t cold enough to get them yet but the weather dropped recently, not a lot but a lot for California. I still kept putting it off but one day after school, I was at the mall, feeding into my lush addiction, and the shoes were just calling to me. So I bought them and they are amazing.

_8214513I’ve had them for a couple of weeks now and I’m loving every minute of it. I did buy them half a size up because, as it says on their website, they do run about half a size too small.I bought them in the black leather and┬áthese boots literally look good with everything.I wear them with dresses, skirts and leggings, I’m not really a jean girl. The heel is high enough to give me some much-needed height but not so high that I can’t wear them up the millions of stairs at school.

Since the boots are real leather, I got them stretched and taps put on them so I won’t wear the heel down over time as I wear them. I don’t know where I got them stretched or the taps put on them. My mom gave them to my dad, who took them to get all fixed up at a local store but I know they stretch shoes for you at Nordstroms if you ask, not sure about the taps though.

If you’re looking for a cute bootie for the fall/winter season, or just like to buy shoes like me, I highly recommend the BP Trolley bootie! It’s only 99 dollars and comes out to around 107 with taxes! If you get them, ┬átell me how you feel about. If you have another pair of boots that you think I should buy, tell me about those! I’m always looking for a good shoe!

Fall Clothing Wish List:Dresses

I wasn’t going to write a fall clothing wish list because I normally don’t buy clothing for fall. The weather usually doesn’t change that much in California but recently it’s been raining a lot more and we’ve gotten fall like weather! I’m super excited but was a little confused the first day it happened because I didn’t have the clothing to match the weather. I wasn’t to upset┬ábecause it just gave me a reason to go shopping, not that I really need a reason.

I don’t want this to be a super long blog post so I’m going to post what I want in sections. This one will be about dresses. I’ll probably be the longest because I’m not much of a pants girl. I wear dresses pretty much year round. No matter what the weather or the occasion, there’s a 99.9% chance I’m wearing a dress or a skirt.

The first dress on my wish list, and I already bought this one, is the Maya Lazer cut hem dress from Boohoo.com. pzz96956_msI haven’t purchased from Boohoo before but one my favorite youtubers recently spoke about the website in an upload and I just had to try out some of their stuff. It’s a shift dress and I’ve been wanting to buy one forever but just never got around to actually getting one. The dress is maroon, a signature fall color, with a scalloped bottom and a cute lazer cute out at the bottom. I’ll probably pair this with the B.P. Trolley boots, which I bought, and a thin pair of tights.

pzz98291_black_xlThe next dress, is also from Boohoo, I bought it the same time I bought the previous dress. It’s called the Heidi Textured Skater Dress. It’s a three fourths quarter sleeve white dress with a ribbed pattern. I’ll pair this with a pair of knee-high chocolate-brown boots and opaque black tights. The dress also comes in black.

modcloth-black-luck-be-a-lady-dress-in-black-product-1-16783459-4-400071886-normal_large_flexThe last dress in my list is from Modcloth, which is one of my all time favorite online retailers. It’s the Luck Be a Lady dress in black. I love this dress because not only is it named after one of my favorite Frank Sinatra songs but it’s a perfect transitioning dress. You can wear it to work or school or even on a date with the right accessories. The dress comes with a thin black belt with a gold crown charm. I honestly won’t use the belt. I’ll pair it with a jean jacket, boots, and a plaid or┬áleopard print scarf.

As always, I’ve including the links to the items I’ve written about in the paragraphs above and I’m also going to leave a link to my Pinterest board that’s devoted to Fall!
