The podcast you should be listening to

When I was a kid, my dad used to play talk radio shows in the car and it would legitimately make me sick. I couldn’t stand listening to  people talk or bicker, the sports ones were the worst. Now,I listen to podcast in my car all the time. I’ve recently taken on this aversion to wasting time.It drives me insane to just sit around and do nothing, which is odd because I feel like I’ve spent most of college doing nothing but I digress. Podcast have become a part of my life in a way I’ve never imagined. I literally listen to them all the time and honestly, it’s just an espresso shot of inspiration when you need it.

I don’t really look on iTunes for a certain type of podcast, I just kind of listen to Podcast that are run by women or websites that I’m interested in. My all time favorite podcast, which I  highly recommend you tune into is run by a woman entrepreneur. #GirlBoss Radio, which is ran by NastyGal fonder and author Sophia Amoruso is motivational and  really helps me when I start to get too much in my head.

I think that in an effort to show that anyone can do anything partnered with the accessibility of social media, we’ve created an idea that we have to a certain place by a certain time, our mid-twenties. It’s not healthy and it’s been the main source of my worries ever since I was sixteen years old. The beautiful thing about this podcast, is that it kind of dispels the idea that success is an over night thing. Each of the women interviewed on the podcast has a different story to success and it’s just calming to be reminded that there is no one path to success, nor is there one definition of success.

600x600bb #GirlBoss Radio, which I’m listening to right now, is solely about successful women and how they got to where they are. It’s amazing. I love hearing how other people got to where they are and why they ended up where they were. It’s ran by Sophia Amoruso, founder of NastyGal and all around inspiration. It’s just really interesting to hear these women, some who I’ve never heard of but others that I haven’t, and their life story. The most important lesson I’ve learned from listening to this podcast, is that even when you get to where you want to be in life, there are still ups and downs.

Though Sophia Amoruso, is most widely known as the founder of the fashion website NastyGal and for her book GirlBoss, the podcast includes women from all professions. Including Jessica Williams, who was on the Daily Show, Suzy Baitz, who founded Poo~Pourri, which is something you should keep in your bathroom and Charlize Theron, who is just a living goddess. Honestly, you have to listen to this podcast, it’s amazing and is really the perfect thing if you’re feeling uninspired.

Invest In Yourself

If all goes as planned, I should be finishing my bachelors degree at the end of the calendar year. I’ve spent the past four years just trying to figure out exactly what it is that I’m doing, who I am and all of the other fun stuff that comes along with going from a teen to an adult. The one thing that I’ve learned and have really started to put in to practice this year is investing in myself. Nothing in this world is going to happen to you simply because you want it to happen or because you happen to have a natural talent for it. Everything requires work.

Not to sound conceded but I know I’m going to be good at what I want to do. I don’t believe this because I think I’ve been bestowed a once in a lifetime gift from a higher power. I believe this because I know I’m willing to do what it takes to get to where I want to go. I’m not willing to accept no as a final answer. I was the kind of person, until very recently, where if I heard the word no, I thought it’s not meant to be and I’d move on to the next whatever.  I watched a lot of documentaries over my winter break and I realized that everyone I look up, regardless of their profession, heard the word no over and over again. The difference between them and everyone else is that they never let it deter them from what they wanted.

I’ve adopted that mentality and I’ve made more progress towards my goals in the past month then I have in the past four years. Things aren’t going to happen for me simply because I really want them to happen. You cannot simply speak things into existence. You have to invest in your goals. By investing in your goals, you are investing in yourself. Even if I don’t meet a certain goal by the time I want to, I’m not going to quit. I’m going to continue to invest in myself and my future.

Instead of thinking, well this didn’t happen so it isn’t meant to happen think, it didn’t happen because I’m not ready for this change at this moment in my life. I know that is easier to advise then follow. I know sometimes you want to cry out in frustration when you’ve worked hard but it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to. I’m not saying don’t have those emotions or reactions. Have them. It’s healthy. It’s what makes you human. I’m only saying do not wallow in that feeling. Take a self care day and wake up the next morning ready to continue your climb.

I’ve made the decision that I want to be a certain type of person and live a certain life. Nothing and no one, let alone the world no, is going to stop me from becoming that person and it shouldn’t stop you either.

Back to School!

We’re going to go back, back to school again. Have you ever seen Grease 2? I know a lot of people think that movie is cheesy but I don’t know, I kind of like it. Anyways, the opening song is completely relevant because as it always is in August, it’s back to school time. This is my last week of Summer break but I’m not doing anything wild. I’m not joking,I got braces yesterday, yes at 20 but it’s NEVER to late for straight teeth! My mouth hurts really bad though,so that’s not great but on to the more important than my ortho issues.

IMG_3891As it is back to school, I felt obligated to write out advice for school. I only have ONE piece of advice for school, well one that leads to a lot of smile pieces of advice. Get a planner and USE IT! Don’t do what I’ve been doing up until last year, buy super expensive planners that are super cute, keep them in your school bag and never use them or don’t use them on a constant basis. I literally NEVER used them or if I did, it was sporadically. Around a year ago, I started using an online and physical planner and I swear my life has been changed. I got mine from Target this year. It’s apart of the Sugar Paper LA collection. It’s simple yet it’s very pretty and has plenty of lined writing space, which I desperately need.Keeping a planner helps me clear my head when I’m feeling overwhelmed, which is super important for myself and most people. If I get overwhelmed and I’m not actively trying to face it head on, I will stop doing it. Which, I know doesn’t help at all, in fact it just makes it worst but I will get into my bed and watch Netflix, like a lot of other college students. Keeping everything organized and planned out makes it easier for me to process and keeps me motivated. Which leads to the next piece of advice!

Stay motivated! I’m kind of into motivational speaking, like TED Talks. I recently found a YouTube channel, it’s called Marie Forleo, run by Marie Forleo and she has these conversations with people who I admire, like Bryce Dallas Howard and Elizabeth Gilbert just about life. They’re not necessarily motivational but I love hearing about how far successful people have come to be who they are today. Hearing their ups and downs, the struggles they went through helps me stay motivated to keep working on who I want to become. In the words of Lana Del Rey, I believe in the person I want to become. I know it’s not going to be easy but it’ll be worth it and I’ll I have to do is push through the hard times, which I know is easier said then done.

I hope this helps motivates you this semester, I feel like I got a little bit off topic but it needs to be said, especially in relation to school. Enjoy the end of your summer and I hope you have a good semester! I hope you get all A’s and if you don’t, don’t worry! It’s just a bump in the road, again advice easier said then accepted.

Au Revoir!

Pssss. I’ll be posting about easy back to school style tricks and tips! Plus another playlist to get you up and out of bed in the morning. I know I need one before I go back.

Body Positivity

Sooo I haven’t posted anything in closet classics but for a very good reason. Although I’ve bought plenty of new clothing that I feel are classics, I’m currently addicted to shopping on Unique Vintage, I haven’t really felt comfortable posting pictures of myself in the clothing. Why? Because I’m a human and going through some body image issues right now. I just don’t feel comfortable posting full body pictures right now.

I’m not ill or anything like that. I’ve seen what happens first hand when bad body image begins to take over someones life, so I’m going to do something about it. I’ve started going to the gym and doing yoga.My goal isn’t necessarily to lose weight but to improve my relationship with how I view myself and how I view food. I’ve never been a thin person but I was always healthy until I went to college. We’ve all heard of the freshman fifteen but I gain a little more than that.

My parents become health fanatics when I was around thirteen and as I kid, I thought they were changing the way we were eating because I was fat. I kept thinking that way until around a year ago. Around that time I went to a nutritionist, not because I wanted to change my diet and relationship with my body but because I wanted to lose weight and the yo-yo dieting I’ve been doing since I was fourteen wasn’t working any more. The nutritionist, told me that I have an unhealthy relationship with food. I instantly thought she was crazy because I ate. I’ve never restricted my diet in a way that I felt was unhealthy.

It wasn’t until recently that I realized how right she was. I, like many people, associate food with being fat. I won’t eat for a while and then I’ll bing on junk food. Then I feel like crap for eating the junk food and eat more. It’s a vicious cycle, not only for my body but for my mental  health as well. I always thought I was doing so well because I was eating and I was keeping it down. Just because you eat doesn’t mean you have a good relationship with food. So this summer, because I’ll have more free time than anything. I’ve committed myself to eating better, changing the way I view food and my body. It’s not going to be easy and I’m not going to fix, over seven years of bad body image food relationships.

Until then, or until I’m in a better space, I will not be posting pictures of myself in closet classics. I just wanted to put this out there to explain where closet classics has gone and why I stopped doing it all of a sudden. I’m just not in the space where I feel comfortable doing that.

I hope you have a safe weekend!

Au Revoir!

And I’m back!

Hello darlings! I know I was absent for the entire month of February, I just got swamped with school, then I sprained my ankle, then I got sick and it was just one thing after another but I’m better now! I didn’t post at all last month because I had some many things I wanted to post. I was working on too many things at once, a bad habit of mine but I’ve learned from my mistakes and have put myself on a calendar.I have a couple of ideas that I’ve already worked out so they will be going up this month, promise!

Since this is a fashion blog, I think it’s about time I start posting outfit of the day pictures! Outfit of the day post will include where I got my items from and where you can find them exactly, if they’re no longer available, I’ll provide links to similar items that will work just as well. You’ll notice that I have a couple of staple pieces that I wear quite often which leads me to the next series, Closet Classics! It’ll be all about which pieces that are in my closet, that I believe are the most versatile must haves. It’ll go beyond the token LBD and well fitted jeans, although those are very important pieces to have as well.

I’m going to continue my inspiration series, the next blog post about that will be up on Monday. I’ve ordered some clothes from Forever 21 and Dorothy Perkins that I will definitely post about. As well as Kate Spade goodies that I bought! Thank you so much for continuing to cheek my blog! I won’t do another month without post, promise!

Pssss. If you’re like me and you watched every NYFW show you could, which ones did you like the best? I loved Christian Siriano, Kate Spade New York, Monique Lhuillier, Zac Posen, Alice + Olivia, Oscar de la Renta and the always gorgeous Marchesa Notte, just to name a few. Leave your faves in the comments below and I hope you’re having a beautiful Saturday!

Au Revoir!

Hello!

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Ty.  I’m a college student living in Southern California.  I’m an aspiring author with a deep love for fashion, old Hollywood and books.

I decided to start this blog because I felt as if I needed an outlet to write about all of the things that I love and my day to day experiences as I stumble my way into adulthood.  This blog will be about all of the things that I love and all of the things that make me, me. I’ll be posting about all sorts of things on here. From my favorite old Hollywood films and stars, to books to my adventures as a college student.

Hope you have as much fun reading my blog as I have writing it!
