The year of glossy lips

If you’ve been following me for a while or if you know me in real life, you know, I wore red matte lipstick every day. My sister bought me NARS red lizard for my sixteenth birthday and I was addicted. Recently, I’ve been leaning towards glossy lips and it’s been throwing some of my friends off. Someone even asked me if I was doing okay because it’s been a while since they’d seen me in red lipstick, or lipstick at all. Outside of the fact that I have braces which seem to suck all of the moister out of my lips, making matte lipstick less than ideal for day-to-day wear. I could cope with that, I’ve simply grown away from lipstick. I’m just over crusty matte lips. I’m over liquid lipsticks. I’ve just over it all. Mark my words, This year will be the year of glossy lips. At least it will for me.

Every single lip product I’ve bought, with the exception of Selena’s lipsticks from the Mac Selena collection and a Tom Ford Lipstick, in the past six months have been lip glosses. Everything from NYX to  Dior. I’ve just fallen in love with a good gloss but by far my favorite lip gloss, is the one by Anastasia Beverly Hills. It’s the best-pigmentated lip gloss unnamed-1I’ve ever owned. It has this wonderful vanilla smell, that’s strong enough to where you can smell it but not so strong that you can taste it in your mouth or so that it makes you nausea, which is a problem I’ve run into with other scented lip glosses. The color doesn’t bleed. It’s long-lasting but it’s not thick or sticky, so it’s not going to do that thing where you pull your lips apart and there’s like strings of gloss in-between your lips. These are my top four favorite ABH lip glosses.

Fudge, Vamp, Black Cherry and Potion (top to bottom) are my favorite lip gloss shades from the ABH collection. unnamed-2I know it’s spring and everyone is about bright, soft colors. I get that, I just LOVE a good dark lip. The beautiful thing about these glosses is that they give you that shiny lips but they don’t give you butt lips. If a gloss is too glossy, pigmented, your lips can look like a butt, sorry but it really can and it’s gross. These glosses have the perfect shine. They last forever but they don’t stain when you wipe them off, which is another problem I’ve found with super pigmented glosses. It’s just the perfect amount of shine, color, and gloss.

I get all of my ABH glosses at Sephora but I know they sell them at Ulta as well. They’re only 16 dollars, which isn’t expensive at all, Dior lip glosses are 30 dollars, and though they are amazing, I prefer the ABH ones. The glosses come in three finishes, high Gloss, which is the finish of all four of the shades I mentioned, as well as metallic and shimmer. I still want to try glosses from different brands so I can have a wider collection! Leave any recommendations in the comments below.

The podcast you should be listening to

When I was a kid, my dad used to play talk radio shows in the car and it would legitimately make me sick. I couldn’t stand listening to  people talk or bicker, the sports ones were the worst. Now,I listen to podcast in my car all the time. I’ve recently taken on this aversion to wasting time.It drives me insane to just sit around and do nothing, which is odd because I feel like I’ve spent most of college doing nothing but I digress. Podcast have become a part of my life in a way I’ve never imagined. I literally listen to them all the time and honestly, it’s just an espresso shot of inspiration when you need it.

I don’t really look on iTunes for a certain type of podcast, I just kind of listen to Podcast that are run by women or websites that I’m interested in. My all time favorite podcast, which I  highly recommend you tune into is run by a woman entrepreneur. #GirlBoss Radio, which is ran by NastyGal fonder and author Sophia Amoruso is motivational and  really helps me when I start to get too much in my head.

I think that in an effort to show that anyone can do anything partnered with the accessibility of social media, we’ve created an idea that we have to a certain place by a certain time, our mid-twenties. It’s not healthy and it’s been the main source of my worries ever since I was sixteen years old. The beautiful thing about this podcast, is that it kind of dispels the idea that success is an over night thing. Each of the women interviewed on the podcast has a different story to success and it’s just calming to be reminded that there is no one path to success, nor is there one definition of success.

600x600bb #GirlBoss Radio, which I’m listening to right now, is solely about successful women and how they got to where they are. It’s amazing. I love hearing how other people got to where they are and why they ended up where they were. It’s ran by Sophia Amoruso, founder of NastyGal and all around inspiration. It’s just really interesting to hear these women, some who I’ve never heard of but others that I haven’t, and their life story. The most important lesson I’ve learned from listening to this podcast, is that even when you get to where you want to be in life, there are still ups and downs.

Though Sophia Amoruso, is most widely known as the founder of the fashion website NastyGal and for her book GirlBoss, the podcast includes women from all professions. Including Jessica Williams, who was on the Daily Show, Suzy Baitz, who founded Poo~Pourri, which is something you should keep in your bathroom and Charlize Theron, who is just a living goddess. Honestly, you have to listen to this podcast, it’s amazing and is really the perfect thing if you’re feeling uninspired.

Invest In Yourself

If all goes as planned, I should be finishing my bachelors degree at the end of the calendar year. I’ve spent the past four years just trying to figure out exactly what it is that I’m doing, who I am and all of the other fun stuff that comes along with going from a teen to an adult. The one thing that I’ve learned and have really started to put in to practice this year is investing in myself. Nothing in this world is going to happen to you simply because you want it to happen or because you happen to have a natural talent for it. Everything requires work.

Not to sound conceded but I know I’m going to be good at what I want to do. I don’t believe this because I think I’ve been bestowed a once in a lifetime gift from a higher power. I believe this because I know I’m willing to do what it takes to get to where I want to go. I’m not willing to accept no as a final answer. I was the kind of person, until very recently, where if I heard the word no, I thought it’s not meant to be and I’d move on to the next whatever.  I watched a lot of documentaries over my winter break and I realized that everyone I look up, regardless of their profession, heard the word no over and over again. The difference between them and everyone else is that they never let it deter them from what they wanted.

I’ve adopted that mentality and I’ve made more progress towards my goals in the past month then I have in the past four years. Things aren’t going to happen for me simply because I really want them to happen. You cannot simply speak things into existence. You have to invest in your goals. By investing in your goals, you are investing in yourself. Even if I don’t meet a certain goal by the time I want to, I’m not going to quit. I’m going to continue to invest in myself and my future.

Instead of thinking, well this didn’t happen so it isn’t meant to happen think, it didn’t happen because I’m not ready for this change at this moment in my life. I know that is easier to advise then follow. I know sometimes you want to cry out in frustration when you’ve worked hard but it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to. I’m not saying don’t have those emotions or reactions. Have them. It’s healthy. It’s what makes you human. I’m only saying do not wallow in that feeling. Take a self care day and wake up the next morning ready to continue your climb.

I’ve made the decision that I want to be a certain type of person and live a certain life. Nothing and no one, let alone the world no, is going to stop me from becoming that person and it shouldn’t stop you either.

The Importance of Self Care

Hello Loves!

So! I was sitting down last night, watching YouTube videos and I had an epiphany  that 2017 will be the year of self-care. I’m not talking about fitness, well not completely but I really want to focus on taking better care of myself this year and I want to encourage everyone else to do so as well. I’m not a selfless person but I, like many other people have the tendency to put taking care of myself on the back burner. Something always comes up and I end up being the last thing I’m concerned with, for me, it’s usually school. Now I’m not saying that you should take the money you have saved away for textbooks or rent or your phone bill and go on a Sephora haul. I’m just saying take a little bit of time during the week, probably on a weekend because we often have more free time then, and take care of yourself.

I normally take my self-care day on Sunday. Which I think a lot of people use because it’s often trending on twitter, to regroup myself by myself. Self Care is something that I do alone. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends have issues when it comes to being by themselves. They’re not very comfortable when they’re by themselves and I don’t believe that’s a healthy habit to get into. I was the same way until I started doing this. We should all be comfortable being alone and this is a good way to get into the habit. A time to learn and fall in love with yourself.

For me, self-care is all about my bathroom. I still live at home because college is expensive and I don’t really get much time to myself because my sisters love to talk. The bathroom is the one place I can go where no one will talk to me, which may sound horrible but silence is golden and important for my self-care. Self Care for me, is taking a nice bath with a bath bomb because Lush exist and I’m addicted to it. I read a book and just take time to relax. I do a facial, Lush also as amazing facials, but you can also get a sheet mask from Sephora or even make your own which I’ve done from time to time. Then I end my night, usually watching YouTube videos or whatever show I’ve been wanting to watch on Netflix with a cup of tea.

Though I highly recommend my weekly self-care routine,I also encourage you to make your own! For you, self-care might be going to a yoga class, bing watching your favorite Netflix shows with a giant pizza or maybe it’s brunch with friends! Find something that you can put into your weekly routine that allows you to relax and recharge so you’re better prepared for whatever the week may throw your way.

Back to School!

We’re going to go back, back to school again. Have you ever seen Grease 2? I know a lot of people think that movie is cheesy but I don’t know, I kind of like it. Anyways, the opening song is completely relevant because as it always is in August, it’s back to school time. This is my last week of Summer break but I’m not doing anything wild. I’m not joking,I got braces yesterday, yes at 20 but it’s NEVER to late for straight teeth! My mouth hurts really bad though,so that’s not great but on to the more important than my ortho issues.

IMG_3891As it is back to school, I felt obligated to write out advice for school. I only have ONE piece of advice for school, well one that leads to a lot of smile pieces of advice. Get a planner and USE IT! Don’t do what I’ve been doing up until last year, buy super expensive planners that are super cute, keep them in your school bag and never use them or don’t use them on a constant basis. I literally NEVER used them or if I did, it was sporadically. Around a year ago, I started using an online and physical planner and I swear my life has been changed. I got mine from Target this year. It’s apart of the Sugar Paper LA collection. It’s simple yet it’s very pretty and has plenty of lined writing space, which I desperately need.Keeping a planner helps me clear my head when I’m feeling overwhelmed, which is super important for myself and most people. If I get overwhelmed and I’m not actively trying to face it head on, I will stop doing it. Which, I know doesn’t help at all, in fact it just makes it worst but I will get into my bed and watch Netflix, like a lot of other college students. Keeping everything organized and planned out makes it easier for me to process and keeps me motivated. Which leads to the next piece of advice!

Stay motivated! I’m kind of into motivational speaking, like TED Talks. I recently found a YouTube channel, it’s called Marie Forleo, run by Marie Forleo and she has these conversations with people who I admire, like Bryce Dallas Howard and Elizabeth Gilbert just about life. They’re not necessarily motivational but I love hearing about how far successful people have come to be who they are today. Hearing their ups and downs, the struggles they went through helps me stay motivated to keep working on who I want to become. In the words of Lana Del Rey, I believe in the person I want to become. I know it’s not going to be easy but it’ll be worth it and I’ll I have to do is push through the hard times, which I know is easier said then done.

I hope this helps motivates you this semester, I feel like I got a little bit off topic but it needs to be said, especially in relation to school. Enjoy the end of your summer and I hope you have a good semester! I hope you get all A’s and if you don’t, don’t worry! It’s just a bump in the road, again advice easier said then accepted.

Au Revoir!

Pssss. I’ll be posting about easy back to school style tricks and tips! Plus another playlist to get you up and out of bed in the morning. I know I need one before I go back.

Little Happy Things

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, the past couple of weeks haven’t been easy for the world. It seems as if every time you go on any social media platform or turn on the news, something horrible and heartbreaking has happened. If you’re like me, it can be hard to separate yourself from it. Which isn’t a bad thing, I never want myself or anyone to become used to this kind of violence because then it becomes normal. That being said, I also don’t want anyone to wallow in the constant negativity that we see on the news. It’s not good for anyones mental state. I wanted to share with you guys, little ways to step out of the world and hopefully find some peace, even if it’s only for a moment.

  • Read an old favorite

3eFh33eVtk4a5ajpTOA28TD6o1_400.jpgOne of my favorite things, as I’ve said before, is to read a favorite book. Sarah Dessen has been one of my favorite authors since I was thirteen years old and reading one of her books always makes me feel better. Those books have taught me lessons about myself and those around me.I haven’t read all of her books but my favorite novel of hers that I’ve read, well one of them, is just listen. There’s a quote from that book that I’ve been applying to, well at least trying to apply to my everyday life since I read it. Don’t think or judge, just listen, from her novel, Just Listen, which is advice we should all take to heart. It’s a beautiful book and it never fails to make me feel better. The reason I’m writing read a book instead of watch a movie is because I don’t want to be tempted to watch the news. Make a cup of tea and just disconnect from the world for a bit.

  • Listen to your favorite music

tumblr_myodkarmV61rjbhcro1_500.gifGrowing up music was a bit part of my life. I don’t have any musicians in my immediate family but my parents have always taught my siblings and I that music has a big affect on your mood. Sad music, makes you sad. You cannot help but be a little happier then you were five minutes ago listening to Justin Timberlakes new song. I’m not saying that it has to be his music or Beyonce or anything like that. I’m a huge fan of Bleachers and if I’m ever in a bad mood, I play I wanna get better and I feel a little better. Again, something that’s going to disconnect you from the constant influx of what seems to be never-ending bad news as of late.

  • Take a bath

chandler.jpgThe last thing I like to do on a bad day is take a bath because as Sylvia Plath once said, there must be quite a few things that a hot bath won’t cure, but I don’t know many of them. A warm bath can cure anything. It relaxes your entire body and gives you time to daydream, something I’ve learned you have less time for as you get older. I love a good bath bomb or bubble bar. I usually get mine from Lush or I’ll try new ones from small business on Etsy. If that’s out of your budget or out of your comfort level go to Target or Walmart and buy bubble bath! I do that all the time as well! Bath tubs are the best place to relive stress and disconnect from the world.

I hope these things make you feel a little better, regardless of what you’re going through. Whether its global or personal, or maybe even a little bit of both. I hope it brings a few minutes of peace to your life.

Au Revoir!

Psss. I’m going to start a new series tomorrow! It’s going to be all about my favorite designers! I’ll give you a hint on who the first person is. They just had a show at Fall 2016 Couture week in Paris!

Body Positivity

Sooo I haven’t posted anything in closet classics but for a very good reason. Although I’ve bought plenty of new clothing that I feel are classics, I’m currently addicted to shopping on Unique Vintage, I haven’t really felt comfortable posting pictures of myself in the clothing. Why? Because I’m a human and going through some body image issues right now. I just don’t feel comfortable posting full body pictures right now.

I’m not ill or anything like that. I’ve seen what happens first hand when bad body image begins to take over someones life, so I’m going to do something about it. I’ve started going to the gym and doing yoga.My goal isn’t necessarily to lose weight but to improve my relationship with how I view myself and how I view food. I’ve never been a thin person but I was always healthy until I went to college. We’ve all heard of the freshman fifteen but I gain a little more than that.

My parents become health fanatics when I was around thirteen and as I kid, I thought they were changing the way we were eating because I was fat. I kept thinking that way until around a year ago. Around that time I went to a nutritionist, not because I wanted to change my diet and relationship with my body but because I wanted to lose weight and the yo-yo dieting I’ve been doing since I was fourteen wasn’t working any more. The nutritionist, told me that I have an unhealthy relationship with food. I instantly thought she was crazy because I ate. I’ve never restricted my diet in a way that I felt was unhealthy.

It wasn’t until recently that I realized how right she was. I, like many people, associate food with being fat. I won’t eat for a while and then I’ll bing on junk food. Then I feel like crap for eating the junk food and eat more. It’s a vicious cycle, not only for my body but for my mental  health as well. I always thought I was doing so well because I was eating and I was keeping it down. Just because you eat doesn’t mean you have a good relationship with food. So this summer, because I’ll have more free time than anything. I’ve committed myself to eating better, changing the way I view food and my body. It’s not going to be easy and I’m not going to fix, over seven years of bad body image food relationships.

Until then, or until I’m in a better space, I will not be posting pictures of myself in closet classics. I just wanted to put this out there to explain where closet classics has gone and why I stopped doing it all of a sudden. I’m just not in the space where I feel comfortable doing that.

I hope you have a safe weekend!

Guess Whose back?

Back again? Lol, my little sisters friends was over and she’s really into Eminem, I mean like, really. Anyways, I’m back! Where have I been ? Finals, finals and oh wait, finals. It totally paid off because I got one of the best reports for school i’ve gotten since I came to school but I missed blogging! I’m so happy to be back!

I’m constantly going through these phase’s where I’m not sure if I want to continue doing this but writing means so much to me, I honestly can’t imagine not doing it. I don’t know what it is that makes me stop writing. Sometimes it’s school or other responsibilities but most of the time, it’s just me. I wonder if it’s just a part of growing up. Honestly, I’m always second guessing myself and trying to figure out if I’m making the right choices. I always come back to writing though. I can’t remember who said this but theres a quote and it goes something like, if you can’t leave something alone, it’s most likely meant to be. I’m almost positive it’s supposed to be about relationships but I’m going to use it towards my career choices!

I’m going to be adding a more personal aspect to the blog. I feel like it’s some of my stronger writing and some of it’s funny, or at least I think so. I hope everyone had a good semester, I was really tired after this semester, like exhausted. I got straight A’s though sooo I guess it paid off! I hope you have a lovely Wednesday and here’s to a fun summer!

Happy Spring!!!

It’s Spring! I hope everyone remembered to set their clocks forwards last week and if you have allergies like I do, stock up on the Allegra-D, hand sanitizer and pocket tissue packets. I didn’t post anything last week because it was mid-terms and I was swamped. Which was unbelievable/confusing because I felt super prepared and then Monday came and I went into full mid-term meltdown mode. Honestly, students feel my pain. Its like no matter how prepared you are for mid-terms or finals before they happen, while they happen, it’s like the apocalypse is happening. Then they’re done and you’re like, yeah, that went okay. It might just be me honestly but yeah, that’s where I was last week.

Moving on, yesterday was the first day of spring!!! Although I have crazy bad allergies and spring can be difficult, if I don’t take allergy medicine, and especially rough on my eye makeup. I love this time of year because it’s when all of the pastels, florals and bright colors show up in the stores! Which means my closet is about to be bombarded by pinks and floral prints.

This week I’m going to posting another installation in Closet Classics, spring themed because why not. I’m also going to be posting another section for my inspiration series, this brand just released a makeup collection with Mac, which I got one or two pieces from.

If you’re taking your mid-terms, good luck and if you’re on Spring Break like I am, have fun but be safe. Uber and Lyft exist for a reason, please use it.

Au Revoir!

Pssss. I created a Spring Forward playlist on Spotify. Just a couple of songs, new and old that put me in a good mood. Should I do a lipstick collection post? I’m not a beauty guru and only know what I know about makeup from Youtube, friends and my sister but I have quite a bit of lipstick, a few that are from limited collections too. I don’t know. Tell me if you think it’s a good idea in the comments

And I’m back!

Hello darlings! I know I was absent for the entire month of February, I just got swamped with school, then I sprained my ankle, then I got sick and it was just one thing after another but I’m better now! I didn’t post at all last month because I had some many things I wanted to post. I was working on too many things at once, a bad habit of mine but I’ve learned from my mistakes and have put myself on a calendar.I have a couple of ideas that I’ve already worked out so they will be going up this month, promise!

Since this is a fashion blog, I think it’s about time I start posting outfit of the day pictures! Outfit of the day post will include where I got my items from and where you can find them exactly, if they’re no longer available, I’ll provide links to similar items that will work just as well. You’ll notice that I have a couple of staple pieces that I wear quite often which leads me to the next series, Closet Classics! It’ll be all about which pieces that are in my closet, that I believe are the most versatile must haves. It’ll go beyond the token LBD and well fitted jeans, although those are very important pieces to have as well.

I’m going to continue my inspiration series, the next blog post about that will be up on Monday. I’ve ordered some clothes from Forever 21 and Dorothy Perkins that I will definitely post about. As well as Kate Spade goodies that I bought! Thank you so much for continuing to cheek my blog! I won’t do another month without post, promise!

Pssss. If you’re like me and you watched every NYFW show you could, which ones did you like the best? I loved Christian Siriano, Kate Spade New York, Monique Lhuillier, Zac Posen, Alice + Olivia, Oscar de la Renta and the always gorgeous Marchesa Notte, just to name a few. Leave your faves in the comments below and I hope you’re having a beautiful Saturday!
