I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and if you don’t celebrate Christmas, I hope you had a wonderful weekend! This Friday is the last Friday in the 2015 year and that means lots of people are making new years resolutions. While January first is a great time to start something new and I don’t judge anyone who waits until the first to start working on something different. Personally, I don’t make a habit of making New Years Resolutions for one simple reason. I don’t keep them.
I’m not sure why, I just never keep them. I’ve started new habits in the middle of the year and I usually, not always, usually keep them. I think I can’t keep New Years Resolutions because they come with an unspoken pressure. It’s like during the summer when everyones posting pictures of the two weeks where they did something crazy and fun and you feel boring because you’ve spent your summer working or just watching Netflix.
My advice to anyone who wants to try something different, is to just do it. Take the yoga class, start going to the gym, cut back on coffee, or whatever it is, whenever. I think it’ll be easier if you just do it because you want to not because of the weird social obligation to change something on the first of January. There’ll be less pressure and I know I’m more likely to stick to something if I’m doing it for myself and not because I think other people want me to do it.
I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Years eve/ New years day. Whether you’re going out with your friends or just hanging out at home, watching Netflix and eating pizza. Enjoy yourself and go into the new year, not necessarily with a resolution but with the goal of being as happy as you can be. Which I guess is still kind of a resolution, so maybe I do make New Years resolutions unintentionally.
Pssss. If you click on a link in the first paragraph it’ll take you to Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt singing What Are You Doing This New Years Eve?
