The year of glossy lips

If you’ve been following me for a while or if you know me in real life, you know, I wore red matte lipstick every day. My sister bought me NARS red lizard for my sixteenth birthday and I was addicted. Recently, I’ve been leaning towards glossy lips and it’s been throwing some of my friends off. Someone even asked me if I was doing okay because it’s been a while since they’d seen me in red lipstick, or lipstick at all. Outside of the fact that I have braces which seem to suck all of the moister out of my lips, making matte lipstick less than ideal for day-to-day wear. I could cope with that, I’ve simply grown away from lipstick. I’m just over crusty matte lips. I’m over liquid lipsticks. I’ve just over it all. Mark my words, This year will be the year of glossy lips. At least it will for me.

Every single lip product I’ve bought, with the exception of Selena’s lipsticks from the Mac Selena collection and a Tom Ford Lipstick, in the past six months have been lip glosses. Everything from NYX to  Dior. I’ve just fallen in love with a good gloss but by far my favorite lip gloss, is the one by Anastasia Beverly Hills. It’s the best-pigmentated lip gloss unnamed-1I’ve ever owned. It has this wonderful vanilla smell, that’s strong enough to where you can smell it but not so strong that you can taste it in your mouth or so that it makes you nausea, which is a problem I’ve run into with other scented lip glosses. The color doesn’t bleed. It’s long-lasting but it’s not thick or sticky, so it’s not going to do that thing where you pull your lips apart and there’s like strings of gloss in-between your lips. These are my top four favorite ABH lip glosses.

Fudge, Vamp, Black Cherry and Potion (top to bottom) are my favorite lip gloss shades from the ABH collection. unnamed-2I know it’s spring and everyone is about bright, soft colors. I get that, I just LOVE a good dark lip. The beautiful thing about these glosses is that they give you that shiny lips but they don’t give you butt lips. If a gloss is too glossy, pigmented, your lips can look like a butt, sorry but it really can and it’s gross. These glosses have the perfect shine. They last forever but they don’t stain when you wipe them off, which is another problem I’ve found with super pigmented glosses. It’s just the perfect amount of shine, color, and gloss.

I get all of my ABH glosses at Sephora but I know they sell them at Ulta as well. They’re only 16 dollars, which isn’t expensive at all, Dior lip glosses are 30 dollars, and though they are amazing, I prefer the ABH ones. The glosses come in three finishes, high Gloss, which is the finish of all four of the shades I mentioned, as well as metallic and shimmer. I still want to try glosses from different brands so I can have a wider collection! Leave any recommendations in the comments below.

The podcast you should be listening to

When I was a kid, my dad used to play talk radio shows in the car and it would legitimately make me sick. I couldn’t stand listening to  people talk or bicker, the sports ones were the worst. Now,I listen to podcast in my car all the time. I’ve recently taken on this aversion to wasting time.It drives me insane to just sit around and do nothing, which is odd because I feel like I’ve spent most of college doing nothing but I digress. Podcast have become a part of my life in a way I’ve never imagined. I literally listen to them all the time and honestly, it’s just an espresso shot of inspiration when you need it.

I don’t really look on iTunes for a certain type of podcast, I just kind of listen to Podcast that are run by women or websites that I’m interested in. My all time favorite podcast, which I  highly recommend you tune into is run by a woman entrepreneur. #GirlBoss Radio, which is ran by NastyGal fonder and author Sophia Amoruso is motivational and  really helps me when I start to get too much in my head.

I think that in an effort to show that anyone can do anything partnered with the accessibility of social media, we’ve created an idea that we have to a certain place by a certain time, our mid-twenties. It’s not healthy and it’s been the main source of my worries ever since I was sixteen years old. The beautiful thing about this podcast, is that it kind of dispels the idea that success is an over night thing. Each of the women interviewed on the podcast has a different story to success and it’s just calming to be reminded that there is no one path to success, nor is there one definition of success.

600x600bb #GirlBoss Radio, which I’m listening to right now, is solely about successful women and how they got to where they are. It’s amazing. I love hearing how other people got to where they are and why they ended up where they were. It’s ran by Sophia Amoruso, founder of NastyGal and all around inspiration. It’s just really interesting to hear these women, some who I’ve never heard of but others that I haven’t, and their life story. The most important lesson I’ve learned from listening to this podcast, is that even when you get to where you want to be in life, there are still ups and downs.

Though Sophia Amoruso, is most widely known as the founder of the fashion website NastyGal and for her book GirlBoss, the podcast includes women from all professions. Including Jessica Williams, who was on the Daily Show, Suzy Baitz, who founded Poo~Pourri, which is something you should keep in your bathroom and Charlize Theron, who is just a living goddess. Honestly, you have to listen to this podcast, it’s amazing and is really the perfect thing if you’re feeling uninspired.

Outside the Comfort Zone

I, like I pray most people do, have a fail proof, it’s that time of the month proof, I shouldn’t have gotten desert proof, outfit. An A-Line Skirt with a body suit and normally a pair of heels. It’s easy to dress up or down, works for any season and does wonders for my silhouette. I can, and did, wear variations of this outfit for the past two years. Recently, I’ve been buying clothes that don’t necessarily fit in the 1950’s aesthetic I’ve acquired over the years. I’m just kind of outgrowing it, which I was trying to fight for the longest time but I’ve come to accept it. Everything evolves over time. I’m not the same person I was when I was sixteen, so why should my wardrobe?

You’re style will evolve over time. I’m never going to be a t-shirt and jeans girl. I’m just not but I’ve recently added pieces that I wouldn’t have even glanced at in the past years. Things I wouldn’t have necessarily been comfortable wearing because of one insecurity or another. I’m pushing myself out of my style comfort zone and I’m not regretting it. I recently bought a romper, from Forever21. Aside from the fear I had of my girls being all over hate place, I hate wearing shorts. Long story short, I had a bad experience once because of a pair of shorts when I was like sixteen and I haven’t worn them since.

Yet, this black romper with red flowers was literally screaming at me through the computer screen so I had to buy it. When it came in the mail, I literally did not open it because I was kind of nervous, like the romper was going to come out of the plastic baggy and eat me. I eventually did and Oh my, I’ve fallen completely in love it and it’s one of my favorite pieces in my closet. It’s so comfortable and it looks so cute. I honestly can’t believe I didn’t buy one sooner.

I’m not giving up my a-line skirts and I’m NOT giving up body suits. I hate shirt lines, so intensely, it’s not even funny BUT I will be stepping out of the norm of whats in my closet. The beautiful thing about personal style is that is always evolving. It’s can be kind of stressful, especially if you’re into aesthetics like I am, but it’s nice to have some variety in your day to day wardrobe. Buy or in the very least, try on the skirt with the weird print. You’ll have somewhere to wear it, I promise. You might surprise yourself and like it.

Invest In Yourself

If all goes as planned, I should be finishing my bachelors degree at the end of the calendar year. I’ve spent the past four years just trying to figure out exactly what it is that I’m doing, who I am and all of the other fun stuff that comes along with going from a teen to an adult. The one thing that I’ve learned and have really started to put in to practice this year is investing in myself. Nothing in this world is going to happen to you simply because you want it to happen or because you happen to have a natural talent for it. Everything requires work.

Not to sound conceded but I know I’m going to be good at what I want to do. I don’t believe this because I think I’ve been bestowed a once in a lifetime gift from a higher power. I believe this because I know I’m willing to do what it takes to get to where I want to go. I’m not willing to accept no as a final answer. I was the kind of person, until very recently, where if I heard the word no, I thought it’s not meant to be and I’d move on to the next whatever.  I watched a lot of documentaries over my winter break and I realized that everyone I look up, regardless of their profession, heard the word no over and over again. The difference between them and everyone else is that they never let it deter them from what they wanted.

I’ve adopted that mentality and I’ve made more progress towards my goals in the past month then I have in the past four years. Things aren’t going to happen for me simply because I really want them to happen. You cannot simply speak things into existence. You have to invest in your goals. By investing in your goals, you are investing in yourself. Even if I don’t meet a certain goal by the time I want to, I’m not going to quit. I’m going to continue to invest in myself and my future.

Instead of thinking, well this didn’t happen so it isn’t meant to happen think, it didn’t happen because I’m not ready for this change at this moment in my life. I know that is easier to advise then follow. I know sometimes you want to cry out in frustration when you’ve worked hard but it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to. I’m not saying don’t have those emotions or reactions. Have them. It’s healthy. It’s what makes you human. I’m only saying do not wallow in that feeling. Take a self care day and wake up the next morning ready to continue your climb.

I’ve made the decision that I want to be a certain type of person and live a certain life. Nothing and no one, let alone the world no, is going to stop me from becoming that person and it shouldn’t stop you either.

The Importance of Self Care

Hello Loves!

So! I was sitting down last night, watching YouTube videos and I had an epiphany  that 2017 will be the year of self-care. I’m not talking about fitness, well not completely but I really want to focus on taking better care of myself this year and I want to encourage everyone else to do so as well. I’m not a selfless person but I, like many other people have the tendency to put taking care of myself on the back burner. Something always comes up and I end up being the last thing I’m concerned with, for me, it’s usually school. Now I’m not saying that you should take the money you have saved away for textbooks or rent or your phone bill and go on a Sephora haul. I’m just saying take a little bit of time during the week, probably on a weekend because we often have more free time then, and take care of yourself.

I normally take my self-care day on Sunday. Which I think a lot of people use because it’s often trending on twitter, to regroup myself by myself. Self Care is something that I do alone. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends have issues when it comes to being by themselves. They’re not very comfortable when they’re by themselves and I don’t believe that’s a healthy habit to get into. I was the same way until I started doing this. We should all be comfortable being alone and this is a good way to get into the habit. A time to learn and fall in love with yourself.

For me, self-care is all about my bathroom. I still live at home because college is expensive and I don’t really get much time to myself because my sisters love to talk. The bathroom is the one place I can go where no one will talk to me, which may sound horrible but silence is golden and important for my self-care. Self Care for me, is taking a nice bath with a bath bomb because Lush exist and I’m addicted to it. I read a book and just take time to relax. I do a facial, Lush also as amazing facials, but you can also get a sheet mask from Sephora or even make your own which I’ve done from time to time. Then I end my night, usually watching YouTube videos or whatever show I’ve been wanting to watch on Netflix with a cup of tea.

Though I highly recommend my weekly self-care routine,I also encourage you to make your own! For you, self-care might be going to a yoga class, bing watching your favorite Netflix shows with a giant pizza or maybe it’s brunch with friends! Find something that you can put into your weekly routine that allows you to relax and recharge so you’re better prepared for whatever the week may throw your way.

Happy New Year!!!

I’ve been thinking of a good way to describe 2016 and the only word I came up with, was eventful. I had to distance myself from social media for a long time because so many horrible things were happening and it was overwhelming. I wanted to say or do something to help but I didn’t know what to do. When I finally felt like I could write again, the election happened and yeah. So I decided to just start over again in the new year because what’s a better time than January first to have a clean slate.

I’m not one for making New Years Resolutions but I’m also not the type to make fun of people who do. I don’t make them personally because I know I’m not going to keep them, half of the time, I forget what my resolution was to begin with so instead I did something that maybe a little cheesy but I don’t care. It works for me and 2016 was the first time I hadn’t had one in years and I swear, it was like Mercury was in retrograde for a good half of the year.

I made a dream board! Some people call them vision or goal boards but the concept is still the same. My sisters and I went to HomeGoods and each bought push-pin boards. Mine is technically a shadow box but it was gold and I liked it so I’m repurposing it.We’re spending the day to putting our dream boards together. It’s kind of like tangible resolutions.

If you haven’t made a dream board, all you need is a push-pin or a cork board or even a poster board honestly and some magazines. You use images that represent goals or dreams you want to achieve in the new year and as you meet those goals, you take the photo down. I used push-pins for mine, some people staple or glue the item on, just to make removal easier. Hang the board in your room, somewhere you can see it and take a photo of it when you initially complete it. As you go through the year, if you’re ever feeling less than focused or driven to achieve your goals, look back at the first picture, then at your current board to see all that you’ve accomplished. Even if there’s only one picture gone, you’ve done something and that alone should be enough inspiration to keep you going.

I hope you had a wonderful and safe New Years Eve and a relaxing New Years Day. Here’s to the New Year!

Back to School!

We’re going to go back, back to school again. Have you ever seen Grease 2? I know a lot of people think that movie is cheesy but I don’t know, I kind of like it. Anyways, the opening song is completely relevant because as it always is in August, it’s back to school time. This is my last week of Summer break but I’m not doing anything wild. I’m not joking,I got braces yesterday, yes at 20 but it’s NEVER to late for straight teeth! My mouth hurts really bad though,so that’s not great but on to the more important than my ortho issues.

IMG_3891As it is back to school, I felt obligated to write out advice for school. I only have ONE piece of advice for school, well one that leads to a lot of smile pieces of advice. Get a planner and USE IT! Don’t do what I’ve been doing up until last year, buy super expensive planners that are super cute, keep them in your school bag and never use them or don’t use them on a constant basis. I literally NEVER used them or if I did, it was sporadically. Around a year ago, I started using an online and physical planner and I swear my life has been changed. I got mine from Target this year. It’s apart of the Sugar Paper LA collection. It’s simple yet it’s very pretty and has plenty of lined writing space, which I desperately need.Keeping a planner helps me clear my head when I’m feeling overwhelmed, which is super important for myself and most people. If I get overwhelmed and I’m not actively trying to face it head on, I will stop doing it. Which, I know doesn’t help at all, in fact it just makes it worst but I will get into my bed and watch Netflix, like a lot of other college students. Keeping everything organized and planned out makes it easier for me to process and keeps me motivated. Which leads to the next piece of advice!

Stay motivated! I’m kind of into motivational speaking, like TED Talks. I recently found a YouTube channel, it’s called Marie Forleo, run by Marie Forleo and she has these conversations with people who I admire, like Bryce Dallas Howard and Elizabeth Gilbert just about life. They’re not necessarily motivational but I love hearing about how far successful people have come to be who they are today. Hearing their ups and downs, the struggles they went through helps me stay motivated to keep working on who I want to become. In the words of Lana Del Rey, I believe in the person I want to become. I know it’s not going to be easy but it’ll be worth it and I’ll I have to do is push through the hard times, which I know is easier said then done.

I hope this helps motivates you this semester, I feel like I got a little bit off topic but it needs to be said, especially in relation to school. Enjoy the end of your summer and I hope you have a good semester! I hope you get all A’s and if you don’t, don’t worry! It’s just a bump in the road, again advice easier said then accepted.

Favorite Beauty Bloggers

I love, love, love Beauty Bloggers! I love them almost as much as I love fashion/ style bloggers because I love doing my makeup and taking care of my skin. I spend a fair amount of my time on YouTube watching Beauty tutorial and reviews and I spend more then a fair amount of money of beauty products. I know that there are a lot of beauty bloggers out there but I just wanted to share with you guys some of my favorite YouTbers to watch.

maxresdefault.jpgI know you’ve all probably heard of her but I LOVE Jaclyn Hill! I hadn’t heard about her until maybe a little bit over a year ago, shout out to Allison for showing me her videos. I’ve been watching her videos almost religiously since and I can’t believe I hadn’t seen her videos before. She’s amazing and although I’m not the same skin tone as her, I’ve learned so many things watching her channel! I’ve learned so many techniques, makeup and beauty tricks. She’s the first person I ever heard talk about Morphe and I haven’t turned back since. Besides being a makeup goddess, Jaclyn Hill is just a really good person. I follow her on Snapchat and she’s just a genuinely amazing person. She’s one of the first YouTubers I’ve seen, not that others haven’t done it before, that shut down their comments section because of the way their followers were treating each other. She just really wants everyone to do well and be happy with themselves. Plus she’s freaking hilarious and that never hurts.

maxresdefault-1.jpgMy second favorite YouTuber is Jackie Aina aka Jackie O, who is a must follow on Snapchat by the way. I’m not joking, I rarely use Snapchat but I’ve been on the app multiple times just to watch her because she’s so funny. When she’s not being funny on Snapchat, she’s giving real life lessons that always seem to come right when you need them. Jackie Aina is closer to my skin tone and gives a lot of beauty hacks on how to use products properly. Check out her color correcting do’s and don’ts video, it will save lives and money, I promise. Jackie Aina is a must follow for people who have darker skin tones because she really is a way to help find out what type of foundation you should be wearing as well as what your undertones are. After watching her videos, I found the right setting powder, blush, bronzer and foundation for my budget, which ranges depending on what time of the month it is.

13735876_1053299858090725_259467564_nLast but definitely not least is Thomas Halbert, who is probably my favorite person to follow on Twitter and Instagram. He does a lot of tutorials on Snapchat and is definitely more active on Instagram then YouTube.Thomas Halbert turns makeup into art, his diamond boy look killed me. I could never do the things he does with makeup. He truly has a gift. Jackie Aina and Jaclyn Hill are extremely talented as well but they do more everyday wearable makeup, which I love too! I know some people feel a certain type of way about boys who wear makeup but I don’t care. I admire anyone who wears makeup because I know how much time and effort it takes to do it. I mean honestly, look at that, that’s pure art work. If a boy wearing makeup makes you uncomfortable, just remember that all your favorite male actors wear makeup in every T.V. and film appearance you’ve seen then in. Then I invite you to move on to the more important issues in the world.

Thank you for learning about my favorite makeup bloggers! Share your favorite bloggers in the comments below! I’ll be sure to check them out because I’m always looking for new YouTubers to follow because at this point, I’m pretty sure I watch YouTube more than I do TV.

Boho goes Couture

If you saw my last blog post about Elie Saab, you already know that I am obsessed with feminine style clothing. Why? Don’t know, I just love it and wish I could wear it all the time, or at all, considering I’m a twenty year old college student. Honestly, I’d just like to walk through the atelier and see the seamstress work their magic. Seeing as I cannot do that for various reason, the big one being I don’t think you’re allowed to do that if you don’t work for a brand, I just watch their shows, over and over again when couture season comes along and day dream.

Most recently, there was the Fall 2016 couture week in Paris and I’ve been looking at the photos from Vogues website ever since. In particularly Zuhair Murads line. I am not a bohemian style girl. I appreciate and love people who take that style and make it their own, I’m just not one of them. I’m more golden age hollywood then Woodstock. That being said, I died when I was his collection. I died, came back to life and died again because it’s so beautiful, I stopped breathing.

I became interested in Zuhair Murad when I saw Jennifer Lopez, ageless goddess, in one of his white pieces a while back and I realized that I had been loving his designs for YEARS and never knew who he was. Do his designs remind you of anyone? _MUR0009.jpg*cough, cough Elie Saab. They have similar designs in that they both have impeccable detailing! Which I am a sucker for in anything. I will say that for me at least, the real difference between Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab is the feel I get when I see their clothing. Elie Saab reminds me of living breathing princess clothing, while Zuhair Murads designs have more power behind them. Not that the two can’t be synonymous, it’s just a different feeling, design wise.

_MUR0179 This is one of my favorite looks from the show. I love the blood red, burgundy fabric.A color, I myself tend to lean towards during the fall but the thing I love the most is the sleeves. I know that seems weird but I’ve noticed if a dress has a lot of detailing, sometimes it won’t be continued with the sleeves or if it is, it doesn’t seem to blend or it’s a little simpler. I love the fact that the detailing continues along with the sleeves, not taking away from the beauty of the rest of the dress but adding to it.

I hope this encourages you to look at designers that may not be as well-known despite having achieved massive success. I hope you have a lovely Monday!

The Fairy Tale World of Elie Saab

If you could build a dream closet, filled with any designers you want, who would you pick? Elie Saab would have to be one of, if not my first choice. I first came across Elie Saab around two years ago and I’m not joking when I say, it was love at first sight. I’m almost at the point now where I can spot an Elie Saab creation, just by the way it looks because all of Elie Saabs clothing look like something out of a Disney movie. KIM_0715.jpg

You cannot tell me this look doesn’t remind you of the Queen of Hearts, if she was a mogul living on fifth avenue?! This dress is from his latest collection, which was shown at last weeks Fall 2016 Couture week in Paris. I loved this collection and this dress was hands down my favorite piece from the collection. It’s a lot darker than the looks Elie Saab normal does but it’s still has that trademark intricate detailing.

My favorite thing about Elie Saab’s designs is that they’re always feminine, which is why they have a princess like nature to them. This collections inspiration was New York City, which isn’t what comes to mind when one thinks of femininity. New York is a gritty city, known for Wall-street, the fashion industry and the constant hustle and bustle. He takes the core of New York and makes it dreamlike. KIM_0138.jpg

This dress looks like a walking piece of architecture, an idea that usually produces clean lines or more masculine clothing. Elie Saab took this theme and made a dress that looks like a dream. Although the print resembles the empire state building, it stills moves and sits on the body like a gown. It’s not boxy but instead omits an aura of elegance and glamour, while still properly representing the theme.

I would love to just have a closet full of these dresses. Granted, I don’t have anywhere to wear them but I would love to just walk around my house with them on.There’s no way anyone could slip into any of his creations and not feel glamorous.

I hope this encourages you to look into Elie Saab and the rest of his designs! I got all of these photos from Vogue! If you select Runway and then Fall Couture 2016, you can find his latest show as well as all of the shows from the latest runway show! Tell me who you’d have in your dream closet below!
